If you binge-watched both seasons of Bridgerton and fell in love with the pomp and decadence of tea parties, lively conversation, classical music, colourful flowers, stunning architecture and historic regency; or you simply love great food, a unique experience and learning about Melbourne history, then The Refectory at Werribee Park is hosting the event of your dreams!
Promenade through the lush gardens of Werribee Park and experience a glorious afternoon spent enjoying entertainment from soprano starlet Donna King, as she leads ‘A Journey Through Time: High Tea at The Refectory’. Donna relishes in curating opera musical performances for intimate events, roving through the crowd with a focus on blurring the lines between artist and audience. At this Werribee Mansion high tea, you will indulge in the beauty of operatic arias and song, as you are led on a historical journey of the iconic Italianate property that is the Werribee Mansion and hear intriguing stories of the Chirnside Family – the original owners of the estate.
The Chirnsides were among the most influential and important people in the Wyndham area as it began growing. Brothers Thomas and Andrew migrated to Australia from Scotland in 1839 and 1841 respectively and went on to become prominent landowners and pastoralists – eventually building and living in The Werribee Mansion. Just like it is now, The Werribee Mansion became a focal point in the community and the Chirnsides hosted many events such as balls, picnics, polo matches and horse races where all locals were warmly received. How lovely that tradition has lived on through the ages and the mansion is still open and welcoming to all who visit.
Whilst listening to the gorgeous music of Donna King, you will be tucking into a delectable high tea menu, catered by Bursaria Fine Foods. On offer will be perfectly delicate mouthfuls of seafood vol-au-vents, chicken finger sandwiches, Cornish pasties and smoked salmon blinis; all washed down with freshly brewed tea or coffee, Bursaria’s famous homemade lemonade and even swigs of bubbly champagne, should you wish to add a champagne cart to your booking. To finish on a sweet note, there will be passionfruit and lemon meringue tartlets, chocolate and macadamia brownie with chocolate ganache and macadamia brittle, Queen Charlotte’s fancy cake and fresh soft Refectory scones served with delicious raspberry jam and double cream. Absolute heaven.
This one-of-a-kind high tea experience in Melbourne is the diamond event of the winter season; and will be held in the cozy comfort of The Refectory at the Werribee Mansion, so feel free to dress as regal as you like, and come early to ensure a prompt start to the event and to sip on your complimentary Pimms cocktail upon arrival.
Look out for surprises, such as greeters in costume to add to the ambience; and with the event set against the grand Werribee Mansion – which is the epitome of impeccable Italianate architecture and sophistication – you will truly feel like you have stepped back in time and arrived at an 1800’s lawn party. Be sure to book early to secure your table, because this Melbourne high tea experience is one you certainly don’t want to miss!
